Girls Active is a physical activity programme targeting
teenage girls in schools in the northwest (County
Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim) region of Ireland. It is a
joint initiative between the Health Service Executive
West (HSE), Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership
(SSRP), Donegal Sports Partnership (DSP) and Youth
Sport West (YSW). The programme is designed to
increase the number of teenage girls involved in long-
term regular physical activity through developing more
supportive environments in schools
In Colaiste Iascaigh this programme is offered to all girls to take part. Through the years there have been a lot of activities for the girls to try out. Some of the activities are as follows:
It is hoped that these fun activities encourage girls to get more physically active and therefore improve their health and attitude to exercise and activity as they get older.
As a reward for good attendance there is a Girls Active festival held every year in Sligo I.T where the girls get to join other schools in trying out more activities.
